Pinball Machine Parts List
Wed Feb 17, 2010 4:01 pm // 0 comments // Reeses2150
Compiled at the Feb 17th Meeting.
All amounts are based off of the dimensions of 3'x2'x10", the length, width, and height of the machine.
The box to house the table:
2"x8" wooden board for the side walls, 10' worth.
2 sheets of 3'x2' plexiglass for the top and floor of the machine, one must be at least 1/2" thick for the bottom side.
a sheet of 2'x3' thin board for the bottom of the machine.
The Table design:
sheet metal, any dimensions that would allow for at least a 27' long strip at 1.5 inches wide, plus another 4"x4" piece for the elevated ramp. (basically, a 4'x4' sheet when you do the math.)
heavy duty rubbed bands for the kickers and slots up top, along with the nails to hold the rubber bands in place.
wiring to create the switches and circuits of the board.
The Flippers:
we'll probably buy them ready made from a pinball machine parts store.
The Plunger:
same deal.
Bumpers:
We'll make the basic shape of them out of carved wood, so we need about 1-2 feet long, 3" diameter dowel of wood.
3 washers that are 1.5" thick on the inner diameter, under 3" on the outer diameter.
Three solonoids to attach to the washers and push them up.
Now we just need to research the cost of each fo these and come up with a rough price estimate.
Welcome!

Welcome all new members to the new semester! My name is "Reeses", and I'm the current president of the club. Let me quickly outline a few of the basics of the computer club. There are no requirements at all to be a member, you don't need to know how to program in Java, or even know how to setup an email account, everyone is welcome. You can attend as few or as many meetings as you want and feel free to leave early or show up late if you want to. Every meeting though, we start the first 30+ minutes discussing the future plans for projects, meetings, and club business, and then we get on to whatever the meeting has planned. Finally, once a month we host a movie night, where we show a technology related movie (such as Hackers or the Terminator trilogy) and order pizzas.
The first meeting will be Wednesday the 3rd, and as usual for this semester it will be held in IRC #133 at 2PM and ending at around 5PM. This meeting will be focused on welcoming the new members and showing the projects we'll build this semester, from the Pinball machine to the Lego Robotics Kit.

Hey everyone and welcome to the new year! Got a few quick things to inform you about before our meetings start up next week. My name is Richard Kohut and I'm the current president of the club, so if you're new and getting this email then hello again! If you know someone who would be interested in joining the club, please forward this message to them!
Feb 1st is the Club Fair! I will be bringing in the LEGO Robotics kit to show off at our table along with the pinball table mock-up, so that people can see examples of what we'll be doing this semester. It will be in the College Center Cafeteria's at 11AM on Monday until 1:PM, so if you can make it, even for just a minute or two, that would be awesome.
Our first meeting is on Wednesday the 3rd! Right now we do not have a room, as Brenda at Student Activities has basically been unreachable to me for god knows how long recently, but we've put in a request for a room, and if that falls through or takes longer than expected we will be back in the cafeteria A again next to the power outlets.
Our budget and projects for this semester are pretty simple. We have the big already approved project of building a pinball machine, and we will be purchasing a cheap 100$ projector for the club, so it you can find one that works at better than 480 resolution please post it to the forums! Also, "The Modifyer" is ordering robotics supplies so that he can run a meeting or two focusing on hardware and robotics, so that should be excellent as well.
PINBALL MACHINE!

As a few of you already know, the big project idea for next semester is that we will be building a fully functioning pinball machine, from scratch. That means the civil and mechanical engineering for the table itself and it's mechanisms, electrical engineering for it's programming, and the physical skills of putting it all together.
It's going to be a big project, and I'd like to save it for the end of the semester probably, we will need to most likely reserve the major parts of 3 meetings for it. The first meeting to outline the project and everything needed to get it working, the next day in the metal shop to actually construct the table (this will be a special meeting as we'll be in South 2 building, and the last day for testing, bug fixes, and extra time is needed in construction.
Real quick here's a few inspirational tables without electronics made out of wood. We still need to decide whether to use wood, aluminum, or plexiglass, but for now I've designed a quick mock-up table using some of the elements of these tables which I'll post pictures of later.
